This April we’re bringing you the nostalgic musical ‘When The Lights Go On Again’ to commemorate the ending of the 2nd World War, 70 years ago that month.
The show recalls the Brits at home surviving the war years with friendship, spirit and above all, humour. We follow the fortunes of a small number of families and neighbours as they go about their daily lives.Full of nostalgic songs, it promises memories for those who were there, whilst providing an opportunity for others to imagine how it all felt.
Featuring 32 songs, all popular hits in their day and still well-known now – including The White Cliffs Of Dover, Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree, Run Rabbit Run and We’ll Meet Again – all woven into the storyline, taking the audience into a rations queue, to a Saturday night Dance, inside an air raid shelter, and to a school concert to name but a few scenes, then finally to a VE day street party, where the characters are celebrating peace at the conclusion of hostilities.
Enjoy the familiar tunes and relive the community spirit at Port Sunlight’s Gladstone Theatre.
