The feedback from last night’s Jekyll & Hyde Taster concert, “This Is The Moment” has been nothing but sweet.
Compered by well respected local Theatre and TV critic Peter Grant, the evening served to welcome everyone to BOST’s world and to explain the background to next months’s show, Jekyll And Hyde ~ The Musical. Based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic story set in the 1880s, the show features a thrilling score from multi-Grammy and TONY nominated Frank Wildhorn & double Oscar and Grammy-winning Leslie Bricusse. The tale of the epic struggle between good and evil comes to life on stage, as love and virtue are pitted against murder and chaos in this mesmerising gothic musical.
BOST’s chorus and a selection of soloists gave performances from their back catalogue, to introduce themselves to the gathered audience of 300 musical theatre lovers . Songs from Sir Elton John, Claude-Michel Schonberg, Rogers & Hammerstein, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Kander & Ebb provided a smorgasbord of auditory delights, much appreciated by those present, if the enthusiastic applause was anything to go by!
Resident Artistic Director of more than 4 decades, Elsie Kelly, spoke about “her” Company and how she has beaten them into (professional) shape over the years. She commented on their dedication to BOST and their overall determination to do whatever it takes to perform to the standards for which the Society is so well known.
To introduce the evocative score of Jekyll & Hyde ~ the Musical, a challenging and passionate chorus number “Facade” was performed followed, in the second half, by two beautiful duets and the concert’s title song, powerfully sung by leading man, Jekyll and Hyde himself, Chris Simmons.
