Yesterday, many BOST members sadly joined the Bowen family and other friends to say a very fond farewell to our long-time friend and colleague, John Bowen. Actively involved in BOST for several decades, John was until recently working on our Marketing Team as well as featuring in our Concerts, large and small, and playing character roles on stage. Roles such as Frank in the Strauss operetta “Die Fledermaus,” the high priest Caiaphas in Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” and bumbling inventor Maurice (Belle’s father) in Disney’s family musical “Beauty And The Beast” proclaim his versatility in characterization and singing styles.
With his caring personality and never being without a smile, John naturally set everyone at ease. He was a born raconteur and retold tales in a lively, humorous manner to the delight of his listeners. His varied choices of careers during his working life and the wide range of his reading meant that John was rarely at a loss for a snippet of interesting trivia or an apt, amusing quotation, whatever the topic of conversation!
He will be much missed but never forgotten by BOST members and by many within our audiences, too.
