BOST’s 2015 Shows

Published:

On Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th April next year, we bring you the nostalgic musical WHEN THE LIGHTS GO ON AGAIN to commemorate the ending of the 2nd World War, 70 years ago that month.

This show recalls the Brits at home surviving the war years with friendship, spirit and above all, humour. We follow the fortunes of a small number of families and neighbours as they go about their daily lives.Full of nostalgic songs, it promises memories for those who were there, whilst providing an opportunity for others to imagine how it all felt.

The 32 songs in this show, all popular hits in their day and still well-known now, include The White Cliffs Of Dover, Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree, Run Rabbit Run and We’ll Meet Again. They are woven into the storyline, taking the audience into a rations queue, to a Saturday night Dance, inside an air raid shelter, and to a school concert to name but a few scenes, then finally to a VE day street party, where the characters are celebrating peace at the conclusion of hostilities.

Enjoy the familiar tunes in WHEN THE LIGHTS GO ON AGAIN and relive the community spirit at Port Sunlight’s Gladstone Theatre.

Later in 2015, we will present a dramatic show, JEKYLL AND HYDE~THE MUSICAL from Frank Wildhorn, the composer who created the fantastic musical, “The Scarlet Pimpernel.“ As a foil to our Spring show, BOST brings you this retelling of the famous Robert Louis Stevenson novel, “The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde” from Thursday 22nd October to Saturday 24th October. It will be staged at the Floral Pavilion Theatre, New Brighton.

The characters, particularly Henry Jekyll, his fiancee Lady Emma Carew and tavern girl Lucy Harris, are finely and sympathetically worked, each moving the tale on with richly emotional solos and duets. The best-known song from this musical is “This Is The Moment,” sung by Jekyll as he experiments on himself to discover the accuracy of his theory regarding the existence of good and evil within a single person.

JEKYLL AND HYDE~THE MUSICAL is a thrilling, fast-paced tale, laced with romance, intrigue and murder. Its music, right from the tolling bell which begins the overture, is atmospheric and speaks to the emotions. Everyone who enjoyed our production of ”The Scarlet Pimpernel” in 2008 is sure to be thrilled by another Wildhorn creation, this one in collaboration with the famous lyricist Leslie Bricusse.
