We are delighted to be supporting SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, during our production of ‘When The Lights Go On Again’.
SSAFA has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families since 1885. Every year their team of volunteers and employees help more than 73,000 people in need, from Second World War veterans to young men and women who have served in more recent conflicts.
Their support covers both regulars and reserves in the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the British Army, the Royal Air Force and the Merchant Navy, and their families, including anyone who has completed National Service. They are all entitled to lifelong support from SSAFA, no matter how long they have served.
BOST have teamed up with SSAFA to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, and we will be performing ‘When The Lights Go On Again’ (WTLGOA) on the three days immediately leading up to the national celebration. The musical will be a poignant tribute signifying true British spirit overcoming troubled times and features over 30 classic songs of the era.
Both SSAFA Merseyside & SSAFA Cheshire will benefit from the shows, with bucket collections and other fundraising activities planned over the coming weeks.
Malcolm Ranson, Branch Treasurer SSAFA Merseyside, said: “We are very grateful to BOST for their support and hope the show’s audiences will also get behind our worthy cause.
“Any donations or funds raised will directly help the local armed forces community in a number of ways, through direct support to individuals in need of physical or emotional care.”
BOST previously raised £700 for SSAFA during their 2015 sell-out production of ‘When The Lights Go On Again’ and hope to exceed this amount this time around.
The upcoming Anniversary of VE Day will be an opportunity for us all to remember the enormous sacrifices that were made at home and abroad, and to joyously celebrate as people did 75 years ago, the arrival of peace in Europe.
‘When The Lights Go On Again’ is being performed on 5-7th May at the Gladstone Theatre, Port Sunlight. Tickets cost £20 with senior, student and family discounts available, and can be bought here
