Auditions for WTLGOA

In May 2020, we will be performing the musical, ‘When The Lights Go On Again’.

The musical is set during the days of World War II and takes audiences through the quirks, humour and tragedy of every day life during the war, culminating in a VE Day street party.

The production will feature over 20 named characters, along with children’s roles, and will be performed at the Gladstone Theatre in Port Sunlight, Wirral.

Auditions for these characters will be held on Sunday 15th December, at BOST HQ (24a Clifton Road, Birkenhead, CH41 2SG).

Principal character names and their suggested on stage playing ages can be found below:

    • Fred Parker – Dad  40+
    • David Parker – 19+
    • Jane Parker – 19+
    • Susan Parker – 12
    • Jimmy Parker – 10
    • Gran Parker – 60+
    • Elsie Jones – neighbour 40/50
    • Vera Herbert – neighbour 40/50
    • Jessie Morgan – neighbour 40/50
    • Mr Simpson – Headmaster 50+
    • Jean Hepworth – Teacher 25+
    • Simon – R.A.F. Navigator – (Jean Hepworth’s boyfriend)
    • Sylvia Grahame – (David Parker’s girlfriend)
    • Mark Turner – (Jane Parker’s boyfriend)
    • Dance M.C.
    • Sergeant Major (comedy role)
    • Carmen Miranda
    • Lilli Marlene
    • Ted (ARP Warden)

In addition to the 2 principal children’s roles (Susan and Jimmy) we are looking for other PRIMARY school age children to be in the show.

Auditions will be held at BOST HQ (24a Clifton Road, Birkenhead, CH41 2SG) on Sunday 15th December.

Children’s roles will be auditioned at 10 am, Adults from 11.15 am. A breakdown of arrival times for each character can be found below (as always, auditions may over-run, so patience may be required!)

> 10:00am – All children, including Susan & Jimmy
> 11:15 – Parker family members: Fred, Alice, David, Jane, Gran
> 12:30pm – Vera, Elsie
> 12:45pm – Jean, Simon
> 1:15pm – Sylvia, Mark
> 1:30pm – Jessie, Joe, Ted, Heinz, Fritz, Dance-hall soloists, all other roles
> 2:00pm – New Members auditions

(Andrews Sisters to be auditioned at a later date)

All Candidates will be emailed the chosen Cast List after 8 pm on Monday 16th December. Break a leg!

 

Other info
Timed to be performed during the three days immediately leading up to the 75th Anniversary of VE Day (5th, 6th and 7th May), the show will be a poignant tribute signifying true British spirit overcoming troubled times.

Children’s rehearsals will take place on Tuesday evenings from 6-7.30 pm and also on the 6 Sundays prior to the show from 2-5.30pm.

There are no Dancer’s auditions for this production.
