Disney’s Beauty And The Beast

Dates: 11th May, 2011 - 14th May, 2011
Venue: Liverpool Empire Theatre

This magical musical follows the traditional fairytale, but with 2 typical Disney additions: firstly an arrogant town hero complete with his ineffectual side-kick, who devise a dastardly plan to ensnare Belle in marriage; and secondly, not only has the prince been transformed into a hideous beast, but all the inhabitants of his castle have also undergone change, becoming household objects (including a clock, candlestick and teapot), whilst retaining their human personalities. Can true love flourish between Belle and the beast, and so break the curse before it is too late?

Following the global popularity and success of the 1991 Oscar-winning animated Disney movie, the Broadway stage adaptation was created. It became Broadway’s 6th longest running production and won the Olivier Award in the UK for Best New Musical in 1998. With music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Tim Rice and Howard Ashman, the enchanting and well-loved songs include the upbeat ‘Be Our Guest’ and the unforgettable title song ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

Much of the energy and excitement in this show is created through the wonderful songs, both romantic and comical, and spectacular production numbers. The enchanting story-line and inspiring costumes will capture your imagination and transport you into that “Tale as old as Time.”
